Printer Capability 
Tests
Use this page to test the capabilities of your printer and printer driver.
If some of the features on this page are printed incorrectly, 
try altering some of the settings available to your 
printer driver in the Windows Control Panel.
If this is still unsuccessful, try contacting your printer manufacturer 
or Microsoft for a more up to date printer driver.
Some printer drivers can incorrectly print text that should be hidden by an opaque frame. The frames below will 
determine if you have this particular printer driver limitation. 
If your printout suffers from this problem 
 you need to hide text under
 an opaque frame, we suggest turning 'Print TrueType as graphics' on, if your printer driver supports this option.
Some printer drivers can also print transparent fill patterns incorrectly. The graphics objects in the frames below will 
determine if you have this particular printer driver limitation.
Text with expanded or compressed widths is not printed correctly by some printer drivers. If your printout suffers 
from this problem 
 you need to print text with expanded or compressed widths

Use this page to check and adjust the printing position and alignment of your printer.
First ensure that your printer is correctly set up using the Windows Control Panel.
Print out page 1 of this file
The crop marks on this page are positioned at the corners of the column guides, as set up on the Column Guides dialog box
 (Page menu). When printed out correctly, their position on the page should match the values on that dialog.
The crop mark positions should be:
Top left crop mark = 1 inch from top, 0.75 inches
 from left.
Top right crop mark = 1 inch
 from top, 0.75 inches from right.
Bottom left crop mark = 0.75 inches from bottom, 
0.75 inches
 from left
Bottom right crop mark = 0.75 inches from bottom, 
0.75 inches
 from right.
Using a ruler, measure the position of the top left crop mark on your printed page. If its position is not what it should be, calculate the difference between the actual and correct position and enter these values in the horizontal and vertical adjustment fields on the Column Guides dialog. For example if the top left crop mark has printed out 1.25 inches from the top, and 1 inch
 from 
the left, you would have to enter a vertical adjustment of 0.25 inches
 up, and a horizontal adjustment of 0.25 inches

Print out page 1 again, and this time all of the crop marks should be printed out in their correct positi
You should save the new printer offsets as part of your default template,
 so that you do not have to readjust 
them each time you create a new document.
Notes:
The white margin between the shaded areas and the edge of the page indicates the non-printing area of your printer.
This document was designed for Letter size paper; when using other paper sizes, e.g. 8.5 x 14.0
, Legal paper size, you must create a document designed around the same principles.
